The brief
The University of Sussex wanted a memorable launch event for the opening of the new Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts. The event needed to do more than mark the occasion — it needed to create a visually arresting moment that would travel well through media coverage and reflect the significance of the building and its namesake.
The challenge
The launch had to balance spectacle with meaning: celebratory and cinematic, but rooted in the legacy of Sir Richard Attenborough and the cultural purpose of the new centre. At the same time, it had to work as both a live event and a strong photo and video opportunity for press and digital channels.
Our approach
We worked with 3Dify, Nina Dunn, and This World Productions to produce a bespoke projection mapping show at building scale. The concept transformed the Attenborough Centre itself into the canvas, using light, motion, and archive-led storytelling to celebrate the life and work of Sir Richard Attenborough.
The building itself became the canvas — light, motion, and archive-led storytelling turned onto its façade.
The content was shaped to support both the live audience and the media output, ensuring the event created a clear visual narrative and a strong sense of occasion. The projection sequence highlighted iconic moments from Attenborough's career, including Brighton Rock, Jurassic Park, Gandhi, Cry Freedom, and Chaplin.

Where AI fits next
This kind of project shows how emerging technology can shape public-facing experiences rather than just digital products. Approached today, we'd also explore how AI could support the pre-production process — concept development, content structuring, and visual-effects creation — while keeping the final experience focused on story, place, and emotion.
